Seventeen-year-old Ashton Beachum is suffering from a personal tragedy when he is kidnapped and taken to Turkey by an insane billionaire named Matthias Mattheson. Mattheson, along with his team, are dying from a peculiar disease caused by the act of time travel. Mattheson claims that Ashton has some unique genetic traits that could be used to synthesize a treatment for this disease. To test his theory, he decides to send Ashton on a journey to the past.

What was supposed to be a leisurely tour of ancient Antioch unfolds into a complete disaster. Ashton ends up enslaved at a fish sauce factory on the Mediterranean coast, while all but one of his time travel companions are killed.

Luckily the pilot, a brilliant engineer named Priya, is still alive. Unfortunately, though, the slavers took her elsewhere. So, Ashton must somehow escape from the illegal garum factory and find Priya to return home. Along the way, Ashton makes friends, enemies, and even a lover. But not even the most searing pain or awe-inspiring wonder can make him forget his sins.

Considered to be "fast-paced" and "impossibly dark" with "impressive world-building," The Malignancy is a book you don't want to miss out on!
